Tteokguk is a classic Korean soup made with sliced rice cakes in a light, savory broth. Soft, chewy, and comforting, it’s a meaningful dish enjoyed especially on New Years Day.

1. Cut the green onions and beef into bite-size pieces.

2. Separate the egg yolks and egg whites.

3. Lightly oil a pan and cook the yolks and whites separately into thin sheets. Let them cool and slice into thin strips for topping.

4. Saute the beef with garlic until browned, then add water.

5. Season the broth with soy sauce, yondu, and fish sauce.

6. Add the rice cakes and boil until they soften.

7. Finish with green onions and sesame oil, then top with the sliced egg yolk and egg white strips.

8. Enjoy!
